Tark-e-Duniya (Renunciation of the World) |

* Allah Apostle said, "If I had gold equal to the mountain of Uhud, it would not please me that anything of it should remain with me after three nights (i.e., I would spend all of it in Allah's Cause) except what I would keep for repaying debts." (Narrated Abu Huraira, Volume 8, Book 76, Number 452)
* Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him) said: "This world (i.e. its pleasures and duration) in comparison with the Life in the Hereafter is (similar to the amount of water) one gets when he puts his finger in the sea. Let him then see what it returns with". (Al-Mustaurad bin Shaddad reported the above Hadith. Sahih Muslim Hadith 463. Book 1 Chapter 55 Excellence of Ascetic life from Riyad-us-Saliheen page no. 423)
* The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “I am not afraid that you will worship others besides Allah, but I am afraid that the worldly life will tempt you and cause to compete with each other for it".
(Narrated by Hazrat Uqba bin Amir Sahih Bukhari Book 64 Chapter 17)
* Allah's Apostle said, "If Adam's son had a valley full of gold, he would like to have two valleys, for nothing fills his mouth except dust. And Allah forgives him who repents to Him." (Narrated Anas bin Malik, Volume 8, Book 76, Number 447)
* Allah's Apostle said, "The (Hell) Fire is surrounded by all kinds of desires and passions, while Paradise is surrounded by all kinds of disliked undesirable things." (Narrated Abu Huraira, Volume 8,Book 76, Number 494)
* The Prophet said, "I looked into paradise and saw that the majority of its people were the poor, and I looked into the Fire and found that the majority of its people were women." (Narrated Imran, Volume 8,Book 76, Number 554)
* The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “The people will soon summon one another to attack you, as people when eating invite others to share their dish.” Someone asked: “Will that be because of our small numbers at that time?”
He (peace be upon him) replied: “No, you will be numerous at that time: but you will be scum and rubbish like that carried down by a torrent, and Allah will take away the fear of you from the breasts of your enemy, and put ‘wahn’ (enervation) into your hearts.”
Someone asked: “ What is wahn (enervation) O Messenger of Allah” The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) replied: “Love of the world, and the dislike of death.”
(Sunan of Abu-Dawood Hadith 4284 Narrated by Thawban)
* Abu UmamahRZ narrates from RasulullahSLM that
he said, 'The most envied person in my
sight among my friends is that believer who has:
- Little wealth,
- A share (concentration) in Salaat,
- Worships Allah and obeys Allah (even) in secret,
- is not popular among people and fingers are not pointed towards him
(people do not refer to him),
- his sustenance is sufficient and he is patient (content) on that.
Then RasulullahSLM flipped his finger and said, '(the
above referred person) passes away quickly (as explained by flipping his finger),
there are few to mourn his death and he has few heirs.'

* Ka'b ibn AyaazRZ narrates that RasulullahSLM
said, 'Verily for every Ummah there was a Fitna
(test) and the test of my Ummah is (excessive) wealth.'

* Hadhrat Abu UmamahRA narrates that RasulullahSLM
said, 'My Rabb (Lord) offered me that He will convert
for me the land of Makkah into gold. I said, 'No, my Rabb, instead I wish to fill
my belly one day and remain hungry the other day. When I fill hungry, I may humble
myself before you and remember you and when I fill my belly I may praise you and
be grateful to you.'

* Hadhrat Abdullah ibn Mas'oodRZ narrates that
RasulullahSLM slept on a straw mat. When he stood up
(we noticed) the straw mat left marks on the body of RasulullahSLM
(due to the straw mat being rough). Ibn Mas'oodRZ
said, 'Oh Prophet of Allah! had you ordered us we should have
spread (a comfortable bed) for you. (Upon that) RasulullahSLM
said, 'I do not have any love for the (comforts of the) world. My
relationship with the (comfort of the) world is nothing but like a traveller who
(while travelling) seeks shadow under a tree and rest there and thereafter
leaves.'

* Hadhrat Abu HurayraRZ narrates that RasulullahSLM
advised me 'it suffices you from collecting wealth,
(only) a servant and conveyor in the path of Allah.'

* Hadhrat UsmanRZ narrates that RasulullahSLM
said, 'The son of Adam has no right besides three
things: a house in which he stays, clothes to cover his private parts, a piece of
bread and water.'

* Hadhrat Sahl ibn Sa'dRZ says: A person came to
RasulullahSLM and said, 'O Rasulullah! Guide me on such
a practise that Allah loves me and people (too) love me.' RasulullahSLM
advised, 'Practise abstention in worldly things, Allah will love
you and abstain from that which is by people (wealth), people will love you.'

* Hadhrat AnasRZ narrates that: One day
RasulullahSLM went out and we were with him.
RasulullahSLM saw a big house and said (out of disgust),
'What is this?' Hadhrat AnasRZ say: His companions said, 'This house belongs to a
certain Ansari Sahaabi.' RasulullahSLM kept quiet and
he kept that house in his mind. When the owner of the house came and made Salaam
to RasulullahSLM, RasulullahSLM
turned his face from that Sahaabi many times. Until that Sahaaba realised
RasulullahSLM's anger. The Ansari Sahaabi complained to
his companions, 'By Allah, I perceive (response of) RasulullahSLM
to be strange.' His companions told him: RasulullahSLM
came out and saw your big house. The Ansari returned to his house and
broke it until he made it even with the ground.
(Once again) RasulullahSLM passed in
that direction and did not see the big house and enquired what had happened to it.
The companions replied that the owner of the house complained to us your ignoring
him and (after) we informed him, he broke the house. RasulullahSLM
said, 'Every building is a burden upon its owner but that which
is necessary'.

* Ibn Mas'oodRZ narrates that RasulullahSLM
said, "Do not undertake such a profession that
(due to that profession) you engross yourself in the (gloss and glory) of the
world."

* Ka'ab ibn MaalikRZ narrates from his father
that RasulullahSLM said, "Two hungry wolves sent to a
flock of sheep is not more harmful (to the flock) than (a religious harm) to a
person greedy for wealth and position."

* Sahl ibn Sa'd narrates that RasulullahSLM
said, 'If the world was equivalent to a wing of a Mosquito in the sight
of Allah, He would not give a disbeliever a single drop to drink from it.'

* Abu MusaRZ narrates that RasulullahSLM
said, 'Whosoever loves (excessively) his world
(wealth), (the consequences of such love is) he will harm his hereafter (by being
neglectful to his religious obligations) and whosoever loves (excessively) his
hereafter, he will harm his world. So give preference to that which remains
(hereafter) over that which perishes.'

* Hadhrat Amr ibn AufRZ states that RasulullahSLM
said, 'By Allah, it is not poverty that I fear upon
you, but I fear that the world (materialistic things) will be spread before you as
it was spread before the nations that preceded you and you will compete with one
another (resulting) in the world (materialistic things) destroying you as it
destroyed them.'

* Hadhrat Abu HurayraRZ narrates that
RasulullahSLM said, 'The fire (of hell) is covered with
desires and Jannah (paradise) is covered with difficulties.'

* Hadhrat Abu HurayraRZ narrates that
RasulullahSLM said, "The world is a prison for a
believer and paradise for a disbeliever."

* Abdullah bin MasudRZ reported: Messenger of Allah (saws) said: “Do not crave for property lest you should be absorbed in the desire of the worldly life.”
(At-Tirmidhi Hadith quoted from the Book Riyah-us-Saliheen Book No. 1 Chapter 55: Excellence of Ascetic life. Hadith No. 479 page 434)
* Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "There is no right for the son of Adam except in these (four things): A house to live in, a cloth to cover therewith his private parts, bread and water.”

* The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “Be in this world like a stranger or wayfarer.”
(Narratted by Abdullah bin Umar (r.a) Hadith No. 574 Sahih Al Bukhari)
Ibn Umar (r.a.) used to say: “When you survive till the evening do not expect to live until the morning; and when you survive till the morning do not expect to live until the evening. While in good health (do good deeds) before you fall sick; and while you are alive (do good deeds) before death strikes.”
